Are meals provided?
At MLK Camp, breakfast and lunch are provided daily through our partnership with Preferred Meals, offering options similar to school lunches. A weekly menu will be posted in the lobby for families to view.
Families are welcome to send their child with a meal from home, as long as it is nut-free (please avoid items like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches).
Please note: We are unable to refrigerate or heat up meals, and for the safety of all campers, courier or food delivery services are not permitted at the camp site.
What should my child bring to camp each day?
Please make sure your camper comes prepared for a full day of fun! Each day, they should bring:
A refillable water bottle
Spray-on sunscreen (staff cannot apply lotion-style sunscreen)
A backpack to keep all belongings together
Their camp t-shirt in the bag for any walking trips off-site
A change of clothes, towel, and a plastic bag for any water play or accidents
Older campers are encouraged to bring personal hygiene items (like deodorant, wipes, etc.)
Please label all items and avoid sending valuables or electronics.
What should my camper wear to camp?
Campers should come dressed for active, outdoor fun! Here’s what to keep in mind:
Comfortable play clothes that can get messy
Sneakers are required — no Crocs, slides, sandals, or flip-flops
Water shoes are encouraged on outdoor water play days
A hat is recommended for sun protection during outdoor activities
Campers must wear their camp t-shirt on field trip days (we’ll let families know in advance)
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and always ready for movement and adventure!
Will there be themed dress-up days?
Yes! We love to have fun with weekly themed dress-up days, and a schedule of themes will be shared with families in advance. We encourage all campers (and staff!) to participate as they feel comfortable — it’s a great way to build camp spirit!
No need to stress if you don’t have themed gear at home — we’ll have arts & crafts sessions where campers can make their own fun accessories to match the theme. Participation is always encouraged, never required!
What is the group size and camper-to-counselor ratio?
We maintain small group sizes to ensure quality interactions and supervision. Each group typically has 12–15 campers with 1 senior and 1 junior counselor, depending on age and activities. We follow or exceed all licensing guidelines to keep campers safe and supported.
Does the camp accommodate children with special needs?
We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children. However, we are not a specialized program and may not be equipped to meet the needs of students requiring 1:1 support or extensive behavioral or medical accommodations. If you have specific questions about your child’s needs, we’d love to talk with you to see if our camp is the right fit.
What is a typical day like at MLK Camp?
Each day includes a mix of structured activities, free play, enrichment workshops, and group games. We also incorporate weekly themes, field trips, and special events to keep things exciting! A daily schedule will be posted at the site so families can stay in the loop.
If my child doesn’t want to go on a field trip, can they stay at camp instead?
No, all campers are expected to participate in field trips with their group. Staff and programming are not available on-site during trip hours. If a child is unable or unwilling to attend a trip, they will not be able to attend camp that day. Thank you for your understanding.
What ages can attend MLK Summer Camp?
Campers must be at least 5 years old AND have completed kindergarten to attend. The oldest campers we accept are 12 years old — however, if your child turns 13 during the summer, they are still welcome to join us for the full camp season.
What should we know about field trips?
We’ll have weekly outings planned throughout the summer, some will be larger trips, while others may be fun local adventures. A full trip schedule will be shared with families so you know what’s coming up.
All trips are free of charge for campers. If there’s an opportunity for your child to bring spending money (like for snacks or souvenirs), we’ll let you know in advance but breakfast and lunch will always be provided on trip days.
Have questions? We’re happy to help families learn more about camp and registration.
