What are the program hours?
The program runs from school dismissal until 6:00 PM on scheduled school days. School break camps take place at MLK Community Center and runs 7:45am-5pm on select school closure days.
Who can attend King’s Kids?
Students in grades K–7, aged 5-13. Priority is given to families in the Springfield community.
Can my child attend only certain days of the week?
Yes. Families may select the days their child will attend and should indicate their preferred schedule on the program application.
Is transportation available?
Yes, transportation is available from select partner schools. Contact us to confirm your child’s school. Transportation to student homes is available for children attending afterschool program at MLK Community Center only.
What happens on school half-days or early-release days?
We typically provide care on school half-days and early-release days, although transportation arrangements may vary. Families should contact us if their child has an early-release day that does not align with the Springfield Public Schools calendar so we can plan accordingly.
Do you provide care during school vacations or school closures?
Yes. We provide care on select school closure and vacation days. Families can review our annual open and closure calendar for specific dates. Please note that King’s Kids closes during the December school break to allow staff respite time. When offered, school break camps are held at the MLK Community Center and typically operate from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Does King’s Kids provide care for children with special needs?
King’s Kids welcomes families to contact us to discuss their child’s individual needs. While our program is not able to provide one-to-one support, we consider each child’s needs on an individual basis to determine whether we can safely and appropriately support them within our program setting. Please contact the program to discuss your child’s needs and determine whether King’s Kids may be a good fit for your family.
What should my child bring?
Homework, a water bottle, and weather-appropriate outerwear. A healthy snack is provided daily.
Do you offer special programming or enrichment activities?
Yes. King’s Kids offers a variety of enrichment activities throughout the year, including STEM, performing arts, literacy activities, sports and recreation, special events, guest instructors, and occasional field trips. Programming may vary throughout the school year.
